Vellum with ornate gilt boards, both sides and spines in full gilt, front board of each volume at the top and spine edges with red accent, with original red linen dust jackets. Dust jackets with light wear, albums with very light wear at the corners, else bright and clean copies in bright vellum boards. Patterned endpapers, great full-page albumen photographs in very good condition, the pages clean, with very little or no foxing, and the bindings tight and square. Between the two volumes, 134 mounted albumen photographs of the typical Roman souvenir album, showing several views, sculptures, art, ruins, architecture etc. Fratelli Alinari, Firenze label to back, one of the world's oldest photographic firms, founded in Florence Italy, in 1852. Recognized for their quality of work in the field photographing art and architecture, the brothers Alinari eventually also moved to portrait photography, and in 1860 their portrait subjects included the Italian royal family [wiki].
