Folio. 325 pp, with 34 double page and 8 single page sepia collotype plates after drawings by Sandro Botticelli. Publisher's full gilt decorated orange vellum, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. Limited edition of 1475 copies, this is no. 760. The front board slightly bowed at the top corner, the tips lightly rubbed, and the corner very, very lightly bumped, very light rubbing to the bottom edges and maybe a lightly sunned spine, light foxing to the text block edges, and to the first and last few leaves, but overall a rather fresh and tight copy, clean throughout and the binding tight and square, the vellum clean and bright, but, lacking the slipcase. Provenance, Henry Sotheran seller's ticket to the inside front paste-down. "Of this edition 1475 copies have been printed on Van Gelder paper for sale in England and America. The Italian text is that established by Professor Casella in 1923 and by him revised for this edition. The English version by H. F. Cary was published first in 1844. The Pictures have been reproduced from Botticelli's drawings measuring each about 18.5 x 12.5 inches. In Berlin and Rome, the text has been printed by the Westminster Press in Poliphilus Roman capital letters and Blado italic small letters. The pictures have been printed by Daniel Jacomet."- Colophon.
