Black cloth, black cover lettering on a red panel, red spine letters, pp. xiv, 129, 3 inserted plates double-sided (2 photos by Karsh). INSCRIBED on the title-page in Davies early calligraphic hand: "Robertson Davies, for Dr. Charles / Peaker with my warmest / good wishes / Nov. 30 : 1950." Charles Peaker (1899-1978) was one of Canada's foremost organists, choirmaster, teacher and writer (see the Canadian Encyclopedia). Fine copy in slighlty soiled, price-intact dust wrapper with shallow chips to the tips and spine ends, otherwise very good plus.
