Two volumes. Pp. xvi, 486; iv, 487-955, [1]. Engraved title, frontis portrait, and 36 plates (1 double-page) in volume one; engraved frontispiece and 29 plates in volume two, plus numerous wood-engraved textual illustrations in both volumes. Bound in full diced calf with gilt borders, elaborately gilt spines in compartments with contrasting labels, inner dentelles gilt, marbled endpapers. Bindings a little rubbed, spine ends slightly eroded, noticeable foxing to and offsetting from plates, but overall, an especially handsome, extra-illustrated set with 33 additional plates. *Together with his "British Monachism" (2 volumes, 1802), Fosbroke's "Encyclopaedia of Antiquities" made a significant contribution to 19th-century British archaeology and antiquarian studies, and received considerable recognition at the time.
