Toronto: Macmillan of Canada, 1973. First Edition. Hardcover. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Signed. Near Fine / Very Good +. Item #38812

Brown cloth with very light sunning to top edge, else near fine. Housed in a very good plus dust jacket with minimal rubbing to tips and spine ends. From the library of June Callwood with a handwritten card and envelope loosely inserted. Addressed to June Callwood, journalist, author and activist known as "Canada's Conscience". One of the most exceptional and respected voices in Canada, Callwood was a proud career journalist and writer. Achieving acclaim and a loyal following for her thousands of articles and columns for national newspapers and magazines, Callwood was the host of several television programs and authored dozens of books, always related to the many issues of social justice about which she was passionate. The card, dated Dec. 10/90, contains a nice personal note, handwritten and signed "Love, Merna" (Mitchell's wife). Beneath her signature in Mitchell's frail-looking handwriting is "I've always loved you. Bill". Although from Callwood's library, the book itself is not signed by either Callwood or Mitchell.
