Full maroon leather, gilt Armorial arms of Scott of Branxholm, ancestor of the Duke of Buccleuch to upper cover framed and bordered with gilt rules, gilt dentelles, yellow coated endpapers. All edges gilt, with FORE-EDGE PAINTING: pastoral scene of Edinburgh from the Road to Colinton near Craiglockhart. Pp. xvi, 303. Illustrated engraved frontispiece, illustrated title-page repeating the coat of arms from the cover, and 11 engraved plates, artists include J.H. Nixon, C. Landseer, G. Barret, J.W. Wright, Copley Fielding, S.A. Hart, and J.M.W. Turner. Joints and edgtes slightly rubbed, minor chipping to heel of spine. A very good copy with a beautiful fore-edge painting.
