Half title, etched frontispiece by G. Clairin, facsimile letter from Charles Monselet, etched plate by Felicien Rops (Rouir, no. 492.5; Exsteens, no. 502) at the end, text within single rule border with varying typographical headpieces throughout (some very light mainly marginal spotting and staining). Limited to 500 copies per colophon. One of 25 copies on Japon impérial. A unique copy, containing 43 fine original watercolors in the margins by Emile Delphes Chabod comprising 29 in watercolor and 14 pen-and-wash drawings in bistre, with several signed by the artist. The illustrations range from the decorative and charming to the ribald and bawdy, reflecting the nature of a number of the sonnets: Massage, Maladies Secretes, Preservatifs, Bonbon Laxatif and Constipation and several with sexual and gastronomic themes.
