S.l.: s.n., s.d. [Augsburg: Johann Christoph Kolb, ca. 1710 or later?]. Slim 4to. Quarter green leather, marbled paper boards, gilt title, raised spine bands. Marbled endpapers. [2 binder's blanks], [26] leaves, [3 blanks]. [1] tipped-in frontispiece with three engravings laid in. Printed to recto only. Chips to spine ends, spine sunned, light wear to extremities. Spot of tape residue to head of front joint. Hinges starting, a few pieces of tape to pastedowns. Damp staining to foot of gutter. The engravings are revised copies of Jacques Callot's etchings for Vita Beatae Mariae Virginis Matris Dei emblematibus delineata, first published probably in Lorraine and for the second time in Paris by Langlois, 1646. First leaf is title. Motto at head of each emblematic engraving and explanatory verses beneath are given in Latin, French and German. Ink inscription to flyleaf (dated 1857) notes that this book was rare in France and then largely unknown to bibliographers, and the frontispiece is not present in any digitized copies held by institutions and is likely a later addition of three additional engravings from other works. Provenance: Ink inscription to flyleaf of Arthur Dinaux [1795-1864], a French journalist, historian, and antiquarian. He died at Montataire in Hauts-de-France. « Ce recueil de 27 figures (y compris le frontispiece) sur la vie emblematique de la vierge, expliquée en vers francais, latins, et allemands, est rare en France es inconnu auf bibliographes.
