4to. 28 x 22 cm. Writing folio/ secretary. France, 19th century. Bound in full brown leather with laid down panels to both boards. Panels designed with very attractive inlays of bone, pewter, mother of pearl, wood, and brass, with a very attractive and working sliding lock (key included). Lock appears like it could have been added later? Floral brocade endpapers frayed at paste-down fore-edge, split in the side of the paste-down pocket, paper clean and unused, with a rear pocket with a vellum front and the days of the week stamped in gilt and outlined, also never used, containing a gathering of unused paper in the pocket. Some light wear to the edges of the binding and some of the inlays chipped or repaired, but on the whole a very attractive writing folio.
