Double Persephone (Frankensteined Copy - Part Original/Part Facsimile) [WITH] Extra Sheets

Toronto: Hawkshead Press, 1961. First Edition. Softcover. Very Good. Item #47973

[170 x 130 mm] Original illustrated card covers designed by Margaret Atwood. The author's first book of poetry. The text block stapled here. In the first issue, Atwood glued the text-block into the wrappers, changing this after about the first 70 copies or so to stapling the text-block in. This copy in original covers and the first sheet which contains the title-page, title for the first poem (front) and the last leaf containing the poem 'Double Persephone' and the colophon (rear), the remaining text of 12 pages (middle) in facsimile. Apparently, these facsimiles were done or obtained by Toronto poet and bookseller Nelson Ball from leftover sheets. We have only a limited number of this part original/part facsimile available. It's an interesting find and a great option or place holder for the Atwood collector who is unable to find or add the original to their collection. This offering includes this facsimile copy [AND] extra sheets used in the original publication, 9 sheets for covers, and 23 sheets for the text. Pretty cool. Collects seven poems; Formal Garden, Pastoral, Iconic Landscape, Persephone Departing, Chthonic Love, Her Song, and Double Persephone. Book One in the Market Book Series issued by John Robert Colombo's Hawkshead Press. One of approximately 230 produced.

Price (CAD): $1,750.00
