2 volumes. First edition in German. 2 engraved title-pages, 118 engravings and folding map. Text in German, plates and engraved title-pages from the British edition and in English. All plates with tissue guards, extremely clean throughout and very fresh, with only light foxing to the blanks but virtually none throughout, with the plates crisp and bright. In contemporary half leather and red marbled boards, lightly worn corners and edges rubbed, gilt spine lettering, gilt bands and compartments. Volume 2 spine head chipped, volume 1 front joint cracked at the bottom, joints and spine rubbed and scuffed, hinges tender but the boards firmly attached, very strong, and the bindings tight and square. All edges dyed yellow. The map titled in French and English, mounted on the final blank, in great condition. Translated from English by Dr. Johann von Horn. Scarce German edition and scarce with such clean plates.
