Royal 8vo. Etched title and 12 hand-coloured plates, including the advertisement leaf listing the engravings. Loose as issued in original blue printed wrappers, lightly edge-worn but overall in near fine condition. Housed in a custom three-flap card portfolio, enclosed within a full light brown calf binding, gilt-lettered and tooled, with gilt-stamped floral turn-ins. A well-preserved and attractively presented set of Thomas Onwhyn's illustrations for Dickens's cheap edition of The Pickwick Papers. These images, although created contemporaneously, were not published at the time and make their first appearance in this format. A nicely preserved and presented copy.
