The Man

London: William Heinemann, 1905. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Item #49068

8vo. Pp. viii, 436. Publisher's original red cloth, lettered in gilt to spine and upper cover. A bright and well preserved copy. Light bumping to board edges and spine ends, some mild scuffing and toning to boards, slightly cocked. Internally clean aside from a few small spots. Gilt remains sharp and unrubbed. A very good copy overall. One of Bram Stoker's lesser known works, published eight years after Dracula. A romantic gothic novel that explores themes of gender roles, love, and death, and features a strong female protagonist. Though overshadowed by his earlier masterpiece, The Man reveals Stoker's continued fascination with the supernatural and the boundaries of Victorian morality. First editions are increasingly uncommon, this is a nice copy.
