Venetia: Gio. Antonio Rampazetto, 1602. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Item #49288
8vo. Pp. 220, [1]. With 18 woodcut figures. Text set in double columns. Very faint marginal staining to the first few leaves; occasional light spotting and minor worming, affecting only a few words and very unobtrusive. Overall clean, bright, and well-preserved. Bound in full parchment boards, with a black leather spine label titled in gilt and yapp fore-edges. First illustrated edition, and second edition overall, following the unillustrated 1596 issue of fourteen cantos. This expanded 1602 edition extends the poem to eighteen cantos, each preceded by a woodcut illustration, and includes annotations. Pucciarini's Il Brandigi is a continuation of Ariosto's Orlando Furioso, and a notable example of early Seicento epic poetry inspired by the Renaissance chivalric tradition.
