Deutsche Mythologie
Gottingen: In der Dieterichschen Buchhandlung, 1835. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Item #49324
First edition. 8vo. Pp. xxx, [2], 710, [1], clxxvii, [1]. 19th-century quarter brown leather over later tree calf-patterned paper boards. Rebacked with light brown cloth, the original spine chipped and worn but preserved and laid down. Board edges rubbed and corners heavily worn. Page corners of the first and last few leaves darkened from binder's materials; the top edge of the text block shows an old impact affecting a few leaves around p. 180, confined to the upper margin only and not touching the text. Ink name to front endpaper, and name stamped in black to the title-age verso. Otherwise, the text is clean throughout and the binding tight and square. An important first edition of Jacob Grimm's seminal study of Teutonic and Norse mythology, superstition, and magic. Complete in itself; a second volume was issued nearly twenty years later, in 1854.
