Carved horse skull (18 × 7 × 10 in.). Features dense incised ornamentation executed directly into the bone. The surface has been intentionally darkened and lightly polished, creating a strong visual contrast that highlights the engraved motifs. While the overall style closely recalls Dayak carving traditions of Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo)-where engraved skulls can function as culturally expressive artworks connecting animal symbolism with ancestral and spiritual themes-the imagery on this piece diverges from documented Dayak iconography. Notably, the design on the upper surface depicts a deity in an explicitly sexual act, a motif not characteristic of known Dayak ritual carvings and possibly indicative of a different or syncretic artistic context. Although the date is uncertain, the skull may originate from the early 20th century. It was likely created either for esoteric or ceremonial display or as an artisan work drawing on Dayak-influenced aesthetic traditions while incorporating nontraditional, possibly occult, elements.
