Imperial Germany and the Industrial Revolution. With an Introduction by Dr. Joseph Dorfman
London: Secker and Warburg, 1939. Hardcover. Near Fine / Near Fine. Item #49747
8vo. Original green cloth, the spine lettered and ruled in gilt, top edge stained green, in the dust jacket. A later U.K. edition, printed from the 1939 American sheets published by The Viking Press, with a printed overslip covering the original imprint. The dust jacket is price-clipped and shows light wear to the upper edge; the final few leaves are dog-eared at the lower corners, and there is light spotting to the fore edge of the text block. Otherwise a clean, bright, and well-preserved copy. Originally published shortly after the outbreak of the First World War, this was Thorstein Veblen's fourth book. In it, Veblen sought to explain how and why Germany had achieved such remarkable success in the modern industrial economy, grounding his analysis in the structures of business enterprise rather than notions of "national genius."
