Folio. 118p.  - list of subscribers, with the tipped-in addenda. Original gilt lettered and illustrated boards with gilt dulled on the spine, as is often seen, with light wear to the cloth of two corners. Illustrated endpapers and the top edge gilt. With 45 tipped-in plates in colour and in black and white, with captioned tissue-guards, a few of which are lightly creased, and a few plates with light creases in the lower inside corners. Tear in length of about 3 inches into p.113, in the white space only and not affecting the text, with very occasional foxing, but a handsome and very well-preserved copy overall. In the original box which is illustrated and lettered to match the cloth. Box sunned around the edges and spine, with light wear at the corners and crease to the spine. Limited to 1500 copies. Muir described this book as, "…the most magnificent showcase of Ida's illustrations ever to appear…and certainly unique in the history of Australian children's book production". A very nice copy of a rare book, especially rare with the original illustrated slipcase. (Muir, 5592).
