Library of Imperial History In association With Charles Scribner's Sons and The Hamlyn Publishing Group Limited, 1973. Hardcover. Near Fine. Item #5411
[1973-1976]. 34 volumes of the Works and 4 volumes of The Collected Essays. Complete in 38. Bound in full vellum with gilt spine lettering and a gilt armorial device to the front board of each volume, and to each slipcase. All edges gilt. With illustrations and folding maps throughout. The vellum is very clean, some volumes more toned than others, as usual with this set, and the slipcases are often found worn from sticking to one another, this set with minimal wear to the slipcases. Some uneven spotting to some of the spines and light scuffing to the spine of volume 30. Previous owner's subscription bookplate in each volume and signed by the previous owner within the bookplate, also with the previous owner's personal bookplate to the endpaper of 7 volumes of the works and in the 4 volumes of the Essays. Although the projected limitation of this collection was set at 3,000, only 1,750 sets were actually ever published. This set numbered 2075. A clean and bright set. [Cohen].
