Item #6480 The Master of Thornfield Hall. Silkscreen poster for a theatrical production. David Mills.

The Master of Thornfield Hall. Silkscreen poster for a theatrical production.

Toronto: Central Commerce, 1970. Very Good. Item #6480

No date [1970]. Poster dimensions [560mm, 360mm]. Black and white, with teal design elements and dates of production. Staple marks in top corners of poster. Poster produced for the Central Commerce production. Bought in a lot with another theatrical poster from the same school (Our Town). Now named Central Toronto Academy, the formerly known Central High School of Commerce has its roots in a technical institute, specializing in academics, athletics, and the arts. No year is listed on the production poster, graphic design style looks to be from the 1970s. Not much is known about this specific play or writer, other than the presumption that it is based off of the 1954 play The Master of Thornfield by Huntington Hartford, which in turn is an adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's novel Jane Eyre (1847). Based off the title on this poster, David Mills most likely wrote his own adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's novel, and used the fictional location of that book as inspiration.
