First edition. 2 volumes. 8vo, [iv], 296; [iii-v], 309, [1] - lacking the final ad leaf at end, with the half-title in volume 1 only. Half-leather brown morocco over pink/brown linen boards. Binding by Hatchards, London. Frame design stamped in gilt to the compartments, with gilt lettering right on the leather to two. Board corners rubbed and worn, the spines chipped at the ends and the front hinges split, but the front boards still held by the endpapers. Bookplate of Eric Gordon Lawrence to each. Light spotting but the text is generally clean. [Wise, 40, p. 96].
