London: George Newnes Limited, 1934. Hardcover. Very Good. Item #6708
Three volume Newnes cased issue, standard binding. Deep blue cloth, front board lettering in gilt, with border and exploding globe device stamped in blind. Spine stamped in gilt. All text block edges speckled red. Very light bumping and rubbing to the cloth at the corners and spine ends, each volume with bookplate to the paste-down and a more modern bookplate to the front endpaper. The bindings tight and square, the contents fresh and clean and the cloth is spectacularly clean and bright. A very nice set. First issued in 26 fortnightly parts in 1933. A library binding in three parts in half morocco leather was published in 1934, the same year as this cloth edition and remains the same as to contents. The bindings in this three-volume set differ only in the spine numbering, where the third volume is stamped in Roman Numerals. [Cohen, A69.9.c].
